News 2012

  30th April
What a busy, exciting and exceptionally wet month!
Lots of new arrivals. Five of own own mares foaled in just over a week. They chose some of the worst weather we have had in months but the mares had done the foals really well and had plenty of milk so the foals all managed the nasty conditions without a problem. The same cannot be said for our fields on which the wet weather is having a devastating effect.
We still have one more foal to arrive out of Rambler's full sister Hollybrooke Ruby. The first foal (pictured left at just a few hours old) was a huge chestnut filly by Hollybrooke Rambler out of Hollybrooke Gingernut. This is the mare's seventh consecutive foal so we have decided that she will have a year off this time. Visiting mares have been arriving and our own mares who were not in foal this year have already been covered.
Hollybrooke Tinker made his last show ring appearance for the time being at the BSPS Area 15 Show. He won the Heritage Open M&M WHP and the championship and followed this by being placed second in the RIHS M&M WHP. He has now returned home for a holiday to take up his stud duties but we hope that he will be able to return to Sam Roberts later in the summer.
We took two yearlings to the NFPEC Practice Show. It was a particularly wet and unpleasant day and for both ponies it was quite a daunting experience. We always appreciate this opportunity to give our youngest ponies an outing despite the fact that they have no previous experience and still have full winter coats. Both yearlings did extremely well Hollybrooke Duke (by Hollybrooke Tinker) won the yearling colt class while Hollybrooke Nutmeg (by Hollybrooke Rambler) was second in the yearling filly class.

Due to the very wet weather conditions combined with our home paddocks being newly re seeded our stallions will be restricted to a very limited number of visiting mares this year.
  2nd April
We have news that the colt, Burley Time Lord who we exported to Sweden last year has completed his five year old stallion grading which this year included a ridden flat and jumping assessment. His owner Anna Ransholm is thrilled and is eagerly awaiting his first foals.
Open WHP AddingtonHollybrooke Tinker went to the Ponies UK Winter Championships for which he had qualified in both Novice and open WHPs and also for the Novice flat show class. He started the day by being placed second in the mixed M&M large breeds flat class. He swept the board in the Novice WHP classes by winning the class for ponies exceeding 138cm and the championship. He jumped a confident, accurate round in the open WHP and won that class too. The championship for the open workers was in the evening performance. We were not sure what to expect as Tinker had no experience of such an electrically charged atmosphere. He was simply brilliant, performing in a calm accurate but eye catching manner and he was duly awarded the championship. This qualified him for the supreme show championship. Eighteen horses and ponies came forward, all winners of championships during the day. Sam Roberts showed why she is such an outstanding producer. The show she gave with a novice and inexperienced pony was nothing short of amazing. It was such a thrill when he was awarded the first reserve. What a way to finish the winter season! Tinker has been so consistent and we are very proud of him but huge thanks must go to Sam who has put so much time, care and effort into his preparation and production.

Please note in 2012 Hollybrooke Tinker will only be available at stud until the end of May as after that he will be continuing his ridden career with Sam Roberts

Hollybrooke MaxwellLots of news about young ponies this month. The four year old gelding Hollybrooke Maxwell by Burley Traveller (pictured right) made his ridden showing debut at the BSPS Area 11 Show. He was second in the M&M Pure Novice Ridden qualifying for the Winter Championship at the NPS Spring Festival. He had only been broken a few weeks and there were 15 in the class so his owner Ingrid Bergemann was justifiably thrilled. We have also had news of another four year old Hollybrooke Astra who Knavesash Rustlerhas been recently broken and is proving a confident and sensible ride. He will be attending his first show in early April. We are riding Hollybrooke Ginger who has been a delight to break. We hope he will be ready to compete under saddle later in the summer. Another pony by our late stallion Burley Traveller bred by Kate Robb and now owned Ingrid is the six year old Knavesash Rustler (pictured left) who is making a name for himself in the dressage arena and has qualified for the BD National Winter Championships in April. Hollybrooke Tinker has continued his success by winning ten consecutive WHP classes. He has also won both flat showing classes he entered including a Picton Novice ridden which qualifies him for the NPS Summer championships. At the NPS Area 13 Show Tinker took a huge step up in class and jumped in the RI Large workers. There were 17 in the class and only one pony went clear. Tinker had two fences down but he tackled everything including the water splash which he cantered through without a moments hesitation and we were absolutely delighted. With a bit more experience these classes should be well with in his capabilities.
Our first visiting mare arrived almost a fortnight ago and our first foal is due in about ten days. A very exciting time of year!

Hollybrooke Tinker has continued his outstanding show success. He has now contested five WHP classes and has won them all. At both the BSPS Area 15a and Area 7 Winter Shows he was awarded the M&M WHP championship. On both occasions he won both at novice and open level. To add to that, at BSPS Area 7 he also won the large breeds P(UK) confined novice ridden. He has now qualified for both flat and working hunter finals at the winter championships.

Tinker at his first ridden showAt the NPS Area 7 Winter Show Hollybrooke Tinker made his ridden show ring debut with Sam Roberts. He behaved perfectly and he started the day by being placed second in the M&M large breeds novice ridden. He was then first in the Novice WHP exceeding 138cm. There were nineteen in the class. He had the best score for jumping and an amazing nine out of ten for his manners and won the class by four marks. There was plenty to spook at in the jumping and fillers that he had never seen before but he jumped a calm, confident and accurate clear round so we were absolutely thrilled. He will continue to be shown until his stud season starts.

The New Year has got off to a busy start. We have weaned our 2011 foals and they quickly settled into the routine. They are stabled at night and are already leading confidently, happy to be tied up and caught in the field.
Hollybrooke Tinker has been out and about getting some jumping and dressage experience with Sam Roberts (www.robertsnativeshowteam.co.uk). He is proving both scopey and bold and thoroughly enjoying the experience. On his first competitive jumping outing at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre he jumped three immaculate clear rounds one out doors and two indoors. Despite being a novice he is comfortably jumping 85 and 90 centimetre courses. We are hoping that he will be able to do a couple of WHP classes before the stud season begins.
